..Thanks for this upload i grew up in wythenshawe ..we lived in flat on Bleakey Rd peelhall for 2years then moved close to sharston baths ..great history, pubs, shops, buildings ..am amazed at brookway school because now-a-days it still has the same layout ..yeh the tattoo arms was great back in the days my mam n dad would take me n my sister there on bonfire nights ..church Inn pub is a Legend its still there as it is a listed building so is the crown pub ..Woodhouse Park n hollyhedge shops are beutyfull compared to today ..This is history at its best 🙂
I used to go from Stretford to Wythenshaw when I was a kid in the 50's. I thought it was in the 'country. I loved all the greenery and trees. We used to walk down to Ringway and watch the propeller planes take off. I remember it well, but my dad, who is approaching 94 (and now lives here in Australia) has much longer memories of growing up there. His first school was Brownley Green. His own dad worked at Potts Farm. Anybody remember that? I used to go there to see the pigs. I think it had a moat.
i grew up in Woodhouse Park (workhouse park).. i lived in Austell Road and attended Woodhouse Park Infant & Junior School before moving to Moss Nook Secondary Modern School.. i left Manc-land before anyone even thought of a shopping centre just up from Crossacres, never mind calling Wythenshawe a town. i remember walking to 'the bug hut' in Northenden, before The Forum was built.. i've been back since but was so disappointed to see what has been done to my 'playground'. The heart of the area has been ripped apart.. so sad..
When working class people owned their shops. uk ran by billionaires and massive companies like Tesco. Shame to see lots of shops go. I like Wythenshawe
So may memories before my youth I was sale moor lad Pulford Rd behind norris Rd, the yew tree pub a load of us biker lads used to go in there now and then on our x7s and rd's early 80 when I was you and game as top video well put together ❤️
Loved your Wythenshawe pics. I remember living there in the 1970s, my gran lived near Sale Circle on Carloon Rd and my father's parents lived in Westage Gardens on the other side of the park. I live in Melbourne, Australia. If you have stills of Sale Circle, I would love to see them. Ann
The Cornishman Shops as you have them labeled here were bitterly known as the 103 shops as that was the terminus for the 103 bus. Later the 103 changed its number there and went back as the 106 via Peel Hall. It’s hard to think that back in the day Manchester Council put on bus tours from all over Manchester to show would be residents how beautiful Wythenshawe was. If you think of the slums and back to backs all over the place it was built to relieve. Basically a garden estate, grass edges, trees, playing space for kids, gardens. It was actually a dream to live there. My folks were tempted over from Gorton. Something else surprises me in all these wythenshawe slide shows not one mention of Ringway (Manchester international) airport. It was an integral part of the wythenshawe life.
It looks so clean!! My mum and her family would have been growing up on Hilary Road when these were taken. I grew up on Cornishway. It will always be a special to me.
Over the moon at seeing Mottershead Road - I lived at 44 Mottershead - my dearest friend Pat Tansey at the time now (Atkinson), lived on the same road as I did, just around the corner. Our families spent many many years on Mottershead - loved it xxx

The shops shown as Firbank are on Greenbrow Road, opposite the end of Firbank Road (where the pic was taken from). The Red Rose pub is just out of shot on the left.

My Grandad lived there and he showed me all around Wythenshawe, when I visited him back in the 70's, such lovely memories! He lived on Peel Hall RD.
'St Columbus' was really 'St. Columba's', as I remember it from 1958.
Minsterly parade ! Ave it
Felskirk boys 😂
The greenbrow pub is actually the Greenwood tree.
Why are all the photos blurry, surely someone must’ve been able to take a better image. I gave up halfway 🧐

Down to the queers in the town hall.
I think anyone from Wythenshawe probably agrees it gets under your skin....happy memories playing footy on Brownley Green 3 hours a game.
Definitely no acid house parties back ,or house music then 😏 Great video
But there was amphetamine ("speed") use by housewives as well as youngsters ("mods"). It was prescribed as a slimming pill.

We lived on greyfriars road
The Brookway slide - Surely it was still West Wythenshawe Tech in those days ?
Yes I went there
Me too I was born 54 and was last group who went through West Wythenshawe High
Minsterley Parade
One one of the slides-Hollyhedge Shops- is spelt incorrectly, it should be HOLLYHEDGE and not HOLYEDGE (3:16 mins in).
if ever come on here would love to know what happened to wendy and julie blower from roughy gardens
Hey I remember man shouting,he was rag and bone man with horse and cart, blast fro the past
He used to give us balloons and crayons if me mam sent us out with old clothes, pots and pans etc. Grew up in Moat Road in the 70s.

Are you sure Greenbrow Parade is not Minsterly Parade ? As it looks like Simon Court Flats at the far end.
deffo greenbrow parade.
I agree Minsterly Parade 👍

This at banks lane junior school my school
i remember this so well because i played in this game i came on in th esecond half
this move is not very good since there is no shielding of the ball when making the turn. A defender should not have much trouble stealing the ball.
I saw my brother

I believe Greenbrow Parade is correct. Flats close behind are the giveaway. Minsterley flats were further away.
Sad that a vast number of the Wythenshawe pubs are now history
Cock of the North for one1
At the time these photos were taken what you call "The Greenbrow Pub" was called the Baguley Labour Club, later to become the Greenbrow Social Club.
